Marriott opening new hotel in 2012

In addition to the 18 hotels currently owned by Marriott in downtown San Antonio, their management has announced the creation of a ‘super hotel’ that will house them all and provide a covering for the world famous Riverwalk and Alamo. A moving walkway will be installed along the Riverwalk allowing Marriott guests to depart their hotels in style and stop at the restaurants and bars at their leisure.

It’s hoped that this moved will force the hotels outside the 1.3 million square foot facility out of business. “There just not on the Riverwalk,” said Vice President of Development, David Guerrez, also the local author of San Antonio bestseller How to Cut Your Own Hair.

The glass covering is expected to eliminate problems caused by rain, while enormous air conditioning generators will keep the climate at a perpetual 72 degrees. The most luxurious rooms will be installed above the Alamo, with glass floors allowing visitors to look down at one of the most popular landmarks in the world before taking the escalator to lunch.

The women in the Historical Association, known as the Hysterical Association in certain circles, complained that the design would destroy the aesthetic of downtown. They were probably on their periods though so ground was broken last week before they started making any more noise.
