San Antonio Receives 'Golden Queso' Award!
Where else in the world would you expect excellent Mexican food other than San Antonio? The continuing excellence of the Riverwalk’s Mexican restaurants, also known as TexMex to locals to reflect the Texas influence, was recently honored in the annual TripAdvisor Best of The Best Awards, where three restaurants were nominated for the coveted Golden Queso award. Given the huge diversity of Mexican food, which offers tasty treats such as tomalesĀ and margaritas, winning the GQ is no easy task.
Steve Rimmer from Marga-Rita’s on the River owns and runs and cooks in the restaurant of the same name, and although he didn’t receive the award said he wasn’t surprised about San Antonio being linked to Mexican Food, though he hadn’t heard of TripAdvisor before. “It’s all about the quantity of your queso,” he confirmed, adding that most chefs in downtown had plenty of experience with Mexican food, especially the ones on the world famous Riverwalk.
Even Alfredo Martinez, who operates a mobile food cart on the corner of Market Street and South Flores, was overjoyed about the award and was happy to post a sign on his cart saying he’d won it. “This award is for everyone in the city and for the people who died at the Alamo.” Absolutely, Alfredo!
